Description
- The Educational Studies program at The Principia has a mission to prepare graduates to become successful and globally-minded educators, who are able to engage in diverse educational contexts. This is achieved through co-constructed, relevant, theory-based, and experiential learning opportunities, with a focus on social responsibility. The program is led by a professor who reports to the Department Chair, Division Head, and Dean of Academics. They are responsible for teaching 18-21 semester hours per academic year, including both general education and major courses, as well as advising students, engaging in professional development, and participating in campus-wide committees. Additionally, faculty members contribute to the program in scholarly ways, participate in the assessment of the Educational Studies program, support Principia activities, and promote Christian Science-based character education.
Additional Duties:
- • Serves on academic committees.
- • Supports general education, Freshman Year Experience, and writing program expectations. • Works closely with students to further develop their thinking, writing, research, and communication skills. • Attends departmental and division meetings.

Minimum Qualifications:
- • Active (or pending) membership in the First Church of Christ, Scientist and/or in a Journal-listed branch church or society of the First Church of Christ, Scientist
- • Christian Science class instruction preferred, but not required
- • Master’s Degree in Education and experience in the field of Education, which may include classroom teaching, outdoor education, or youth work.
- • Doctorate in Education preferred.
- • Theoretical and practical understanding of current research on learning theory and communication principles.
- • Willingness to be a generalist who is able to do multiple tasks and teach multiple subjects associated with education; to be a reflective, critical practitioner of teaching; to work collaboratively in multiple settings with multiple groups; and to be an effective communicator.
- • Ability to work with a range of students and skill levels.
- • Classroom teaching experience or work with college-aged students preferred.
