Description
- The Boston University Libraries are looking for a Web Content Strategist to develop and maintain an optimal, user-centered web presence across online platforms. This role will be responsible for evaluating the library's web experience for patrons and staff, guiding the implementation of solutions and recommendations, and working with library staff and administration to enhance information resources and services. The Web Content Strategist will play a critical role in ensuring the library's web presence is effective, user-friendly, and up-to-date.
Responsibilities
- • Administer content creation and publishing within libraries web content management systems (e.g. WordPress, SpringShare platforms).
- • Provide guidance and leadership around overall website structure, including information architecture and communication of key services.
- • Develop content strategy and editorial processes for publishing of pages and interfaces for library help, tutorials, and guides in conjunction with BU Libraries’ Research & Instruction Services.
- • Contribute to library user experience research activities and practices that translate user input into site and service improvements.
- • Augment outreach efforts by working with program leads and content creators to highlight and promote collections, people, and spaces to library user communities in online platforms.
- • Develop relationships and partnerships with university stakeholders, and among communities of practice across libraries and higher education.
Required Skills
Required Qualifications
- • Bachelor’s degree, plus 2-3 years of experience working in a web, marketing, or communications role, preferably within higher education or academic libraries.
- • Ability to prepare effective web content to reach diverse user audiences for a large, urban, residential university campus.
- • Working familiarity with standard web publishing technologies and standards (e.g. HTML and CSS).
- • Understanding of website information architecture.
- • Ability to analyze organizational web publishing workflows systematically and work across groups to ensure consistent, effective content to target audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
- • Master’s degree, preferably in Library & Information Science, Information Management, Communications, or similar disciplines associated with the position.
- • Familiarity with content management systems including WordPress and/or SpringShare CMS.
- • Ability to obtain, assess, and prioritize user needs based upon research activities, analytics, and input from colleagues.
- • Experience creating or managing creation of graphic, multimedia, and tutorial content.
- • Ability to interpret and make decisions informed by web analytics.
- • Understanding of web accessibility standards and requirements.
- • Experience in developing, refining, employing, and improving website information architecture in a complex organizational environment.
